Celebrate Canada's 150th by building a home for a family!
Join us as we work together to help a family achieve their dream of a safe and affordable home of their own while we take in the experience of life in northern Canada.
Yellowknife is the capital and only city, as well as the largest community in the Northwest Territories . It is located on the northern shore of Great Slave Lake, approximately 400 km south of the Arctic Circle.
Tell me about Habitat for Humanity Northwest Territories
Families across the Northwest Territories face the dilemma of choosing between buying groceries, buying winter boots, or paying the rent. Habitat for Humanity Northwest Territories’ goal is to overcome this dilemma by providing affordable housing for Northern families.
Habitat for Humanity NWT plans to start their build in April 2017 and complete it by the end of August. As a volunteer on the build, no previous building skills are needed, just enthusiasm, a flexible attitude, and a team-oriented approach. Our team may be working on insulation, drywall, taping, painting, interior and exterior finishes, or whatever else needs to be done to support the build.

Where will I stay? What will I eat?
Our lodging will be at one of the local hotels (with double occupancy). The team will cook breakfast together at the hotel, lunch at the build site and dinner at local restaurants. Snacks and water will be provided at the worksite.
What will it cost?
|The cost for this 8 day opportunity to build in Yellowknife is approximately
$1,880 + round-trip airfare
The trip cost covers: lodging, food and ground transportation for the build portion of the trip, traveler’s medical insurance, orientation materials, and a donation to HFH Northwest Territories and the Global Village Canada program. Participants will need to arrange and pay for round-trip air transportation from their point of departure to Yellowknife. Flight arrangements must be made in consultation with the team leader.
*Habitat for Humanity Canada will issue two separate charitable donation tax receipts: 1) for the Habitat trip fee; and 2) one for the eligible airfare (the airfare related tax receipt is issued after the trip).

Hello / Bonjour, We have a passion for travel, and a passion for volunteering; so leading Habitat teams are a perfect blend.This will be our 9th Habitat trip together, and NWT is the only province / territory we have not visited. We are excited to celebrate Canada's 150 in Yellowknife. If you have a passion for Canada and would like to visit or return to our beautiful north, then this could be the trip for you !
