Celebrate Canada's 150th by building a home for a family!
Join a team of like-minded Canadians to help a family achieve their dream of a safe and affordable home of their own while experiencing life in Canada’s Eastern Arctic. Construction experience is not necessary to join the trip – just a spirit of adventure, willingness to work hard and a sense of humour.
Why should I go to Iqaluit?
The city of Iqaluit (pronounced ih-KAL-oo-it) is located on Baffin Island at the northern end of Frobisher Bay. Iqaluit has a population of about 8,000 and is the capital of the territory of Nunavut. About 60 percent of the population is Inuit and the three major languages spoken locally are Inuktitut, English and French. A visit to Iqaluit is like no other and this trip provides a great opportunity to support a local family improve their housing situation while spending a week in a part of Canada most Canadians have never visited.
Tell me about Habitat for Humanity Nunavut
At the top of the world, under the midnight sun, there is a desperate need for affordable housing. The mission of Habitat Iqaluit is to partner with volunteers and community groups/organizations to build simple, decent housing for working families to provide them with affordable homeownership.

Where will I stay? What will I eat?
Our lodging will be in two apartments each with three bedrooms, with two people sharing a room. We will prepare our own breakfasts and dinners where we are staying with lunch being provided for us at the build site. Snacks and water will also be provided at the build site. The Team Leader will provide more information about meals.
What will it cost?
|The cost for this 7 day opportunity to build in Iqaluit is approximately
$1,530 + round-trip airfare
The trip cost covers: lodging, food and ground transportation for the build portion of the trip, traveler’s medical insurance, orientation materials, and a donation to HFH Iqaluit and the Global Village Canada program. Participants will need to arrange and pay for round-trip air transportation from their point of departure to Ottawa. Global Village Canada is working with an airline to make arrangements for the round trip flight between Ottawa and Iqaluit. The Team Leader will provide details on arrangements and paying for the Ottawa-Iqaluit flights. Flight arrangements must be made in consultation with the team leader.
*Habitat for Humanity Canada will issue two separate charitable donation tax receipts: 1) for the Habitat trip fee; and 2) one for the eligible airfare (the airfare related tax receipt is issued after the trip).

I’m Anjali! I’m looking forward to journeying with another generous, caring, team-oriented, service driven, culturally-sensitive, and curious group of diverse folk to Iqaluit, Nunavut.
I’ve been participating in Habitat for Humanity Global Village Builds since 2010. This will be my fourth trip.
Besides my love of creating a space for people to engage, share, and partake in the lives of others cross culturally, Habitat for Humanity trips offer a time to meet diverse people, connect and share in the common purpose of Habitat for Humanity, and learn from those we serve.
