Halifax, Nova Scotia
August 4 - 11, 2018
Join me as we work together to help a family achieve their dream of a safe and affordable home of their own while we take in the experience of life in the Maritimes.
Why should I go to Halifax?
Halifax is a fun and vibrant city. Tucked into the ocean side, the small but mighty city has a wide range of sites and experiences to offer.
Halifax, an Atlantic Ocean port in eastern Canada, is the provincial capital of Nova Scotia. A major business centre, it’s also known for its maritime history. The city is dominated by the hilltop Citadel, a star-shaped fort completed in the 1850s. Waterfront warehouses known as the Historic Properties recall Halifax’s days as a trading hub for privateers, notably during the War of 1812.
Proud locals (known as Haligonians), enjoy sea breezes, leafy, manicured parks and gardens nestled between heritage buildings, thriving art centres and a great culinary scene.
Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia
Established in 1992 Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia http://habitatns.ca/ has built 55 homes throughout the province to help low income working families achieve the goal of successful homeownership.
The homes are typically wooden frame houses. You could be working on any stage of construction from foundation to finishing to painting and flooring. The type of construction we will be working on will be determined at a later date.

What will it cost?

*Habitat for Humanity Canada will issue a charitable donation tax receipt for the trip cost and the eligible airfare – these will be 2 separate receipts.
Meet the Team Leader: Rita Baita
Hello, my name is Rita and I’m from Oakville, Ontario. I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to take a team to Nova Scotia. I have been very fortunate to be part of the GV program since 2011. This will be my ninth trip, seventh as a leader with previous builds in Guatemala, Chile, El Salvador, Portugal, Indonesia, Nicaragua, and Cambodia.
The challenge of hard work under a hot sun is always rewarded with a huge smile from the heart. I have made some great friends around the world while learning, laughing and having lots of fun. That is why I keep going back!
Construction skills are not necessary, just a desire to learn and listen with a compassionate heart. Bring with you a sense of humour, flexibility and an open mind and you won’t be disappointed. You will have many memories.
Please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to learn more about the trip or apply now using our on-line application. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing this incredible experience.
