Halifax, Nova Scotia
July 15 - 22, 2018
Canada is recognized for being one of the best places to live on earth. However, most people are unaware of the fact that there are still many families who do not have a safe or decent place to live. Habitat For Humanity Canada’s mission is to give a hand-up to hardworking, low-income families in Canada to enable them to live in safe, decent and affordable homes.
Why should I go to Halifax?
Nova Scotia’s traditionally resource-based economy has diversified in recent decades, and now includes defence and aerospace sectors, as well as tourism and film industries. However, the province’s imports far exceed its exports, and the median family income is below the national average. Nova Scotia as a whole faces several socio-economic issues, including a lack of affordable housing.
Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia
Established in 1992, Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia is a non-profit organization working towards building a Nova Scotia where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. To date, more than 60 homes have been built throughout the province to help low income working families achieve the goal of successful homeownership. An affiliate of Habitat for Humanity Canada, HFH NS forms part of the more than 55 affiliate organizations across the country working toward affordable homeownership, which enables our partner families to achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to build brighter futures.

What will it cost?
|The cost for this 8 day opportunity to build in Halifax is approximately
$1,650 + round-trip airfare
The trip cost covers: lodging, food and ground transportation for the build portion of the trip, traveler’s medical insurance, orientation materials, and a donation to HFH Nova Scotia and the Global Village Canada program. Participants will need to arrange and pay for round-trip air transportation from their point of departure to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Flight arrangements must be made in consultation with the team leader.
*Habitat for Humanity Canada will issue a charitable donation tax receipt for the trip cost and the eligible airfare – these will be 2 separate receipts.
Meet the Team Leader: Brenley Crawford
I am from Mississauga and am a firm believer in Habitat for Humanity's "hand up, not a handout" philosophy. I have been involved with my local Habitat affiliate since 2007, and with HFH Global Village for several years. This will be my eighth build. My previous builds (Zambia, New Zealand, El Salvador, The Philippines, Honduras, Fiji, and Nicaragua) were all unique and rewarding, offering me the opportunity to build many different types of housing, as well as to experience and interact with diverse peoples and cultures. I am very excited to have been given the opportunity to lead a team right here in Canada.
Please feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to learn more about the trip or apply now using our on-line application. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing this incredible experience.
