Habitat Quebec

Montreal

Visit la "belle province" whilst giving a "hand up" to families in need

August 10th - August 17th 2019

Families in Canada face many different housing problems without there being any solutions, including lack of affordability, overcrowding, unsafe conditions, and homelessness.

In the Montreal area, more than half a million people, or more than 20% of the population who have an income under $35,000, spend too much of their income on housing. And the problem is growing fast. This creates tremendous instability in communities, weakens the economy, and even impacts health and education success.

Housing is important to the quality of life, health and economic prosperity of our communities. Habitat Canada and Global Village are excited to be partnering with Habitat Quebec to bring safe, decent, affordable housing to the province. Around the world and here in Canada, a house is much more than a home.

When families have a home they can: provide stability for their children, gain improved health, physical safety and security, increase educational and job prospects, and be engaged in their communities.

Habitat for Humanity Quebec

Since its creation in 1999, Habitat for Humanity Quebec has offered access to homeownership to many families by building homes in various municipalities of Quebec, including Greater Montreal, the Lower Laurentians, the Eastern Townships and Montérégie. In total, by the end of 2017, 121 people (including 78 children) were living in homes built or renovated by our organization.

Originally three independent organizations driven exclusively by volunteers (Habitat Montreal, Deux-Montagnes and Sherbrooke), Habitat for Humanity Quebec consolidated its forces in 2013, under new direction and a Board of Directors consisting of highly qualified and respected professionals from various regions of Quebec.

With its new structure, HHQ intends to continue its growth and offer homeownership to an even greater number of Quebec families. To maximize the impact of the Habitat model, the construction of properties that can accommodate more people has always been prioritized. In addition, Habitat for Humanity Quebec develops partnerships with families, businesses and philanthropists that are sensitive to the needs of various communities, including Indigenous communities, to enable the delivery of Habitat projects to all families wishing to access safe, decent, affordable housing.
