Home Renovation

Amount Raised $0.00
Team Goal $0.00

Gliwice, Poland

May 27 - June 5, 2017

In lifting another person we lift ourselves - "Helen Keller"

The Global Village Poland team is looking for like-minded, flexible individuals wishing to improve the lives of "one more family". This is a great opportunity to travel with a purpose, experience a different culture, have fun and meet new friends!

Why Poland?

As a former member of the Eastern Bloc, Poland has to deal with the legacy left by communist economic and social policies. Despite tremendous reforms, overcrowded housing without proper sanitation is still the reality for too many of Poland’s low-income working families. These families are often forgotten behind the walls of aging Soviet-style apartment buildings.

Faced with severe housing shortage, the low-income families often have no choice but to live in substandard housing which threatens their health and safety.

Tell me about Habitat for Humanity Poland:

HFH Poland was founded in 1992 in Gliwice, as the first Habitat presence in Europe  The organization operates through a National Office in Warsaw and second office in Gliwice, both being registered as Organizations of Public Benefit. They  respond to poverty housing through a number of activities, including construction of new houses, renovations of apartments and institution facilities,  advocacy and micro-loan programs.

So far, 113 housing units have been built and  more than 1450 families have a safe decent home.
