Saturday July 8 - Monday July 17, 2017
Fiji is a mountainous island nation located south of the equator in the South Pacific Ocean. Fiji is known for its lush tropical rainforests, coconut plantations, beautiful white sandy beaches, and majestic coral reefs. With a total population of less than one million, only about 100 of its 332 islands are inhabited. Nadi, located on the island of Viti Levu, is one of the largest towns in Fiji. It is the country's main transportation hub, and is known for its cultural diversity.
Habitat For Humanity Fiji
Approximately 31% of Fijians live below the poverty line. HFH Fiji was founded in 1991. Anchored by the conviction that housing provides a path out of poverty, HFH Fiji has assisted more than 28,600 people in Fiji and the Pacific. As of 2015, HFH Fiji has helped over 3400 families through disaster relief response, improved the water and sanitation facilities in more than 47 communities with 1400 families, and has built over 900 new homes. HFH Fiji homes are constructed with concrete blocks or timber, replacing traditional bamboo, woven mat, and dirt floor homes which do not withstand the rainy season.

Where Will I Stay? What Will I Eat?
The team will stay in shared rooms in a modest, secure, clean HFH Fiji-approved hotel near the build site. Meals will be in approved restaurants or prepared by Habitat-authorized local community members. Clean drinking water will be provided at all times. Health and safety of the team is always top priority.
What Will It Cost?
This ten day opportunity to build in Fiji will cost
The trip cost includes: lodging, food, ground transportation, traveller’s medical insurance, orientation materials, and a donation to both HFH Fiji and the Global Village program. Participants will need to arrange and pay for air transportation from their point of departure to Nadi, Fiji. This arrangement should be done in consultation with the team leader.
*Habitat for Humanity Canada will issue a charitable donation tax receipt for the build/trip cost and the eligible airfare; these will be two separate receipts. The costs for R&R portion of the trip are not eligible for a tax receipt and this money must not be sent to HFH Canada. Your team leader will let you know how to pay this.
Meet The Team Leader
My name is Brenley Crawford and I live in Mississauga. I'm a firm believer in the Habitat For Humanity model of "a hand up, not a hand out", both locally and internationally, and how it provides deserving families with the dignity of home ownership. Fiji will be my sixth GV build, and my fourth as team leader. My previous build experiences in Zambia, New Zealand, El Salvador, the Philippines, and Honduras have all been unique and rewarding. I am looking for a team of hard working, easy going, fun, loving, go-with-the-flow people who want to make a difference in a deserving family's life. No experience is necessary; just a willingness to participate on a team, build, have fun, and meet and work with new people, all while soaking up the fascinating Fijian culture!
Whether you are new to the HFH Canada Global Village experience or are a seasoned GV veteran, please join me in Fiji this July as we work together to eliminate poverty housing. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information, or apply now using our online application form!
Be the reason someone believes in the goodness of people!
