First Nations Build

Amount Raised $0.00
Team Goal $0.00

Fredericton, New Brunswick

July 29- August 5, 2017

Build a house for a First Nation's Family!

Are you looking for a life changing experience and to make a positive difference in the lives of others and yourself?  To learn and experience the culture of indigenous Canadians while helping a family in a First Nations community in need of a simple, decent and affordable home? If so, then please join us in Fredericton where you will roll-up your sleeves with your fellow like-minded team members working alongside the family and local community members to inspire, build long lasting relationships and offer hope for First Nations families and communities. All it takes is a positive, open-minded, flexible attitude, a willingness to learn, a sense of humor and the desire to have fun while working hard as part of a team.  There are no prior skills or construction experience required.

Why should I go to Tobique First Nations Community?

Tobique First Nation is one of six Wolastoqiyik or Maliseet Nation reserves in New Brunswick, Canada. Tobique is the largest of the Wolastoqiyik and Maliseet Nation reserves in NB with a population of approximately 2,500. The Tobique Reserve is located on the north side of the Tobique River. The Tobique Reserve, established in 1801 with nearly 20,000 acres, was granted after a petition to the government by band members. Over the years, the reserve was reduced by surrenders to squatters and a major surrender in 1892. Roughly two-thirds of members of the Tobique First Nation reside on the reserve lands.

Meet the Team Leaders: Ken and Rhonda

Ken Rutherford and Rhonda Gomes are so excited to be leading their 4th Global Village team. They have previously led GV teams to Fiji (2016), El Salvador (2015) and Nepal (2014), and will be leading a team to Lesotho in October 2017, after sharing an amazing experience on a GV build in New Zealand (2013) that transformed both of their lives. Previous experience also includes participating on Global Village teams in Egypt, Poland, Kenya, and  the Philippines.. Ken has also had the opportunity to participate on a reconciliation trip to the Kitchenuhmaykoosip Inninuwug First Nations community in 2016 where he experienced the culture, living conditions and way of life of indigenous Canadians. Ken and Rhonda share a common passion and vision to inspire and support people in need around the world while building many lasting friendships along the way.

In addition to planning and leading a successful build, Ken and Rhonda enjoy witnessing the impact that a team of like-minded, hard-working and determined people can have in such a short period of time. This combined with providing so much hope and inspiration to the local community and the families makes for a very rewarding and humbling experience. We all return home from the adventure with a rejuvenated spirit after having been so enriched by the whole experience.

If you find yourself searching for a new experience in your life and this build sounds like an intriguing adventure, we would love to hear from you!
