Why should I go to St. Tammany West?

Rich in history, culinary heritage, green spaces and scenic beauty, St. Tammany, for more than a century, has been where many people come to get away from city life. Now its charms are being explored by visitors from around the country, even the world.  As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work alongside future homeowners who work so hard to help the community continue to thrive.

What will I do?

Teams will typically work on new homes and on any stage of the building process such as framing, drywall, and painting. Tools and safety equipment are available.  Training is provided on site. You will need to bring safety footwear that is CSA approved (Green Patch). All you need is the willingness to learn and get your hands dirty!

Meet the Team Leader: John Bell

John Bell has been a Habitat volunteer since 2004.  This will be the fifth team he’s taken to New Orleans since he first fell in love with the area in 2007.  He has led a team in Honduras and participated on Habitat builds in:  Bozeman, Montana; Jackson, Mississippi; Iqaluit, Nunavut; and, the Jimmy and Roslyn Carter build in Haiti. John also Chaired the Durham Region Affiliate and volunteered with several affiliates in the greater Toronto area.

In true Habitat spirit all John asks is that you come with an open mind and heart. Be ready to roll up your sleeves and be amazed by what can be accomplished in five days.
