Celebrate Canada's 150th by building a home for a family!
Join me as we work together to help a family achieve their dream of a safe and affordable home of their own while we take in the experience of life in northern Canada.
Why should I go to the Yukon?
For a larger than life experience in the land of the midnight sun and the opportunity to help improve housing for First Nations, this Canada Builds project in the Yukon is for you. Our Canada Builds team will be based in Whitehorse – the capital and largest city of the territory.
Covering 483,450 square kilometres (186,661 square miles), Yukon covers an area larger than Belgium, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands combined. Of the 37,000 people living in the territory, about 28,000 live in Whitehorse. About one-quarter of Yukoners are of Aboriginal ancestry and belong to one of fourteen Yukon First Nations and eight language groups. First Nations play a significant role in all aspects of Yukon society.
Tell me about Habitat for Humanity Yukon
Founded in 2004, Habitat for Humanity Yukon, http://www.habitatyukon.org/, has a goal of providing affordable housing for 20 families by the end of 2017. To date, housing projects have been completed in four areas of Whitehorse and a building partnership is underway with the Champagne and Aishihik First Nations.

Where will I stay? What will I eat?
Our lodging will be at one of the local hotels (with double occupancy). Breakfast will be taken at the hotel, lunch at the build site and dinner at local restaurants. Snacks and water will be provided at the worksite.
What will it cost?
|The cost for this 8 day opportunity to build in the Yukon is approximately
$1,770 + round-trip airfare
The trip cost covers: lodging, food and ground transportation for the build portion of the trip, traveler’s medical insurance, orientation materials, and a donation to HFH Yukon and the Global Village Canada program. Participants will need to arrange and pay for round-trip air transportation from their point of departure to Whitehorse, Yukon. Flight arrangements must be made in consultation with the team leader.
*Habitat for Humanity Canada will issue two separate charitable donation tax receipts: 1) for the Habitat trip fee; and 2) one for the eligible airfare (the airfare related tax receipt is issued after the trip).
Meet the Team Leader: Rita
Hello, my name is Rita and I’m from Oakville, Ontario. I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to take a team to the Yukon. I have been very fortunate to be part of the GV program since 2011. This will be my seventh trip, fifth as a leader with previous builds in Guatemala, Chile, El Salvador, Portugal, Indonesia and Nicaragua.
We will work hand in hand with families to help them build their own homes. The challenge of hard work under a hot sun is always rewarded with a huge smile from the heart. That is why I keep going back!
Construction skills are not necessary, just a desire to learn and listen with a compassionate heart. Bring with you a sense of humour, flexibility and an open mind and you won’t be disappointed. You will have many memories.
