November 11 - 20, 2017
Join 200 volunteers from around the world and all walks of life in Cambodia's Big Build!
Over 200 volunteers from around the world will join together with Habitat for Humanity Cambodia this November 2017 to build safe, affordable, adequate homes for at least 15 families. Through the Global Neighbors Program, Habitat Canada has supported the community in Battambang for the past two years to empower 40 vulnerable families. We would like to invite YOU to be one of 40 Canadian volunteers helping to build homes for these families in need.
Since 2014, Habitat Canada has been working with Habitat Cambodia to improve the living conditions for families in the Battambang area. The “Safe and Empowered Communities for Urban Reintegration” project is unique in making centrally located, urban land available for housing low-income families. The work involves converting state-owned land in urban areas of Battambang into privately owned plots with secure tenure for families. This project is empowering informal settlement families through workshops and training sessions on securing land tenure in the region while also supporting 40 families through the construction of 40 new homes. For more information on this project, please click here.
Tell me about Habitat for Humanity Cambodia
While poverty has decreased significantly, many Cambodian families are hovering only just above the poverty line. There is an approximate 2.7 million Cambodians (17.7%) who live in extreme poverty (below the 1.25 USD per capita poverty line PPP 2012) and simply cannot afford to repay microloans. Habitat for Humanity Cambodia seeks to break the cycle of poverty through durable, affordable housing solutions. Since 2003, HFH Cambodia has enabled more than 18,000 families to build strength, stability and self-reliance through grant-based housing support for vulnerable groups, water sanitation, disaster risk reduction and response and market development through financial inclusion.
HFH Cambodia takes a holistic approach to housing that includes empowering marginalized communities in improving their housing conditions and working with partner organizations to address the needs of vulnerable groups of people. As Cambodia is also prone to floods and droughts, Habitat aims to build resilient communities through disaster preparedness and disaster risk reduction. Through institutional lending, microfinance institution partners can disburse loans to families for housing and home improvement. HFH Cambodia is one of the top five countries hosting Global Village volunteers from different parts of the world.

Meet the Team Leader: Rita Baita
Hello, my name is Rita and I’m from Oakville, Ontario. I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to take a team to Cambodia for their Big Build initiative. I have been very fortunate to be part of the GV program since 2011. This will be my eighth trip, sixth as a leader with previous builds in Guatemala, Chile, El Salvador, Portugal, Indonesia Nicaragua and the Yukon,
We will work hand in hand with families to help them build their own homes. The challenge of hard work under a hot sun is always rewarded with a huge smile from the heart. That is why I keep going back!
Construction skills are not necessary, just a desire to learn and listen with a compassionate heart. Bring with you a sense of humour, flexibility and an open mind and you won’t be disappointed. You will have many memories.
Please feel free to contact me at email@example.com if you would like to learn more about the trip or apply now using our on-line application. I look forward to hearing from you and sharing this incredible experience.
