Prince Edward Island

July 15 - 22, 2018

Looking for a different trip experience? Help a Canadian family realize their dream of home ownership while sharing in the spirit of friendship. Calling on all wanderlusters with caring hearts to join a Habitat for Humanity build in Prince Edward Island. No building experience is necessary – just a positive attitude, a willingness to work hard and a sense of humour!

Why should I go to Prince Edward Island?

Canada’s smallest province has a population of about 150,000 with a rich culture and heritage. With its green pastoral landscape, extensive sandy beaches and welcoming local people, it is easy to see why people are attracted to PEI.  Rich red soil and a vibrant fishing industry provide for delectable food experiences.

Habitat for Humanity PEI

Founded in 1996, Habitat for Humanity PEI is a non-profit organization with a mission to provide affordable home ownership to island families with limited income, empowering them to improve their social and economic future.  Through partnerships and the efforts of volunteers, both local and from other parts of Canada, the organization has provided 48 families with safe, decent and affordable housing throughout the island.

What will my week look like?

  • Sunday, July 15 – Arrive in Charlottetown
  • Monday, May 16-Friday, July 20 – Build days
  • Saturday, July 21 – Cultural Day
  • Sunday, July 22 – Depart for home or extended travel

(Please note that the above itinerary may be subject to changes)

Where will I stay? What will I eat?

Our accommodations will be a simple, clean hotel with two people sharing a room. Breakfast will be taken at the hotel, lunch at the build site, and dinner at local restaurants. Snacks and water will be supplied at the worksite.

What will it cost?

The cost for this 8 day opportunity to build in Prince Edward Island is approximately
$1,690 + round-trip airfare

The trip cost covers: lodging, food and ground transportation for the build portion of the trip, traveler’s medical insurance, orientation materials, and a donation to HFH Prince Edward Island and the Global Village Canada program. Participants will need to arrange and pay for round-trip air transportation from their point of departure to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Flight arrangements must be made in consultation with the team leader.

*Habitat for Humanity Canada will issue a charitable donation tax receipt for the trip cost and the eligible airfare – these will be 2 separate receipts.

Meet the Team Leader: Tessy Sagan

Hi, my name is Tessy Sagan and I live in Whitby, just east of Toronto. My love of travel and exploration has led me to many places and adventures, including living in South America for two years. I participated in my first build to Hungary in 2007 and since then I have been fortunate to lead builds to Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Portugal and PEI.  Each experience has been unique and rewarding, combining the opportunity to travel to a new place and experience the culture, while being able to make a difference in the lives of others.

I am thrilled to be returning to build in PEI and I look forward to another great experience with other adventurous spirits.
