About El Salvador:

The smallest Central American country, El Salvador is home to smoking volcanoes, tropical beaches, national parks, coffee plantations, cultural charm and friendly people.  With a population of just over 6 million, the country has been working to rebuild itself since the civil war ended in 1992.

Itinerary:

  • Saturday April 21st:     Arrive in San Salvador
  • Sunday April 22nd:     Orientation and travel to La Paz
  • Monday April 23rd - Thursday April 26th:    Build Days
  • Friday April 27th:    ½ day build and farewell ceremony
  • Saturday April 28th:    R&R
  • Sunday April 29th:    Depart for Home

Accommodations:

Habitat El Salvador will determine the best lodging for the group.  Teams usually stay in hotels or retreat centers that are basic, safe and clean. Typically 2-4 people per room, sometimes dorm-style accommodations.

Costs:

This trip to El Salvador will cost approximately $ 1580 + round-trip airfare + approximately $200 for R&R*.

The trip cost includes:  lodging, food, ground transportation, traveler’s medical insurance, orientation materials, and a donation to HFH El Salvador and the Global Village program. Participants will need to arrange and pay for air transportation from their point of departure to San Salvador, El Salvador. Flight arrangements must be done in consultation with the team leader.

*Habitat for Humanity Canada will issue a charitable donation tax receipt for the trip cost and the eligible airfare – these will be 2 separate receipts.  The costs for R&R portion of the trip are not eligible for a tax receipt and this money must not be sent to HFH Canada.  Your team leader will let you know how to pay this.

There are additional travel costs such as passport, visa and immunizations which the team leader will discuss with you.  These costs are not tax deductible.

Meet the Team Leader:

Hi!  My name is Tammy Paterson and this will be my 7th Global Village build and my 2nd to El Salvador  I first travelled with Habitat to Kenya in 2010 and caught the Habitat bug.  I am looking forward to working with you in El Salvador.  I will be travelling from my hometown of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and hope to share my love of travelling with a purpose.
