Home Construction

Amount Raised $0.00
Team Goal $0.00

Pinamalayan -Mindoro, Philippines

June 9 - 20, 2018

“A hand up, not a hand out”…is Habitat for Humanity’s way of helping develop and promote healthy, strong families in safe environment throughout the world.  Working hand in hand, physically, enjoying the sweat from your work and the comradery of both your Canadian and Philippine team…it just doesn’t get any better than that.

In Pinamalayan, you will not only build a home, you will build friendships with fellow Canadians and Philippines.  You will eat the local food and experience the local culture.

Tell me about Habitat for Humanity Philippines

The Philippines is noted as the 4th most disaster-prone country in the world.  Many people die in these disasters, some because their shelters are too weak to withstand storm surges and the high winds of the super typhoons.  According to the World Trade Organization, other housing related health risks include respiratory and cardiovascular diseases from indoor air pollution; communicable diseases spread because of poor living conditions, and risks of unsafe home injuries.

There are more than 4 million families without a decent place to live in the Philippines— under bridges, in disaster-prone communities, in depressed areas or cramped inside a living space only a little bigger than your ordinary bathroom. We are committed to assisting these families in building their dream, a home in which to raise and nurture their families.  Furthermore, when we improve housing, even if only one at a time, it helps build more stable and vibrant communities.

What will it cost?

The cost for this 12 day opportunity to build in Pinamalayan, Philippines is
approximately $1,960 + round-trip airfare + approximately $400 for R&R*

The trip cost covers: lodging, food and ground transportation for the build portion of the trip, traveler’s medical insurance, orientation materials, and a donation to HFH India and the Global Village Canada program. Participants will need to arrange and pay for round-trip air transportation from their point of departure to San Jose, Mindoro. Flight arrangements must be made in consultation with the team leader.

*Habitat for Humanity Canada will issue a charitable donation tax receipt for the trip cost and the eligible airfare – these will be 2 separate receipts.  The costs for R&R portion of the trip are not eligible for a tax receipt and this money must not be sent to HFH Canada.  Your team leader will let you know how to pay this.

There are additional travel costs such as passport, visa and immunizations which the team leader will discuss with you.  These costs are not tax deductible.

Meet the Team Leader: Kim and Pat Gerein

We have been involved with Habitat for Humanity(HFH) since 2012 and have had the opportunity to build in great countries, alongside fantastic families, and fellow Canadians.  We got involved with HFH because we wanted a meaningful of giving.  In turn, we found that we have received much more back.

No construction or building experience is required. We are looking for individuals who are flexible, caring, adventurous, willing to work-hard and get dirty.  Expect to laugh, cry, learn, and meet some great people.

We would like to invite you on an adventure that will leave you with memories for a lifetime.  We can’t wait to meet you.

Pat and Kim Gerein
