Home Construction

Amount Raised $0.00
Team Goal $0.00

Fredericton, New Brunswick

June 9 - 16, 2018

Are you interested in helping fellow Canadians obtain safe and affordable housing while working in the capital of New Brunswick? Then come and join us on this Global Village experience. No prior construction experience is required; just enthusiasm, the willingness to work  as part of a team and a positive attitude.

Why should I go to Fredericton?

Fredericton is the third-largest city in the province after Moncton and Saint John and is filled with an abundance of culture and visual and performing arts. Join in on a historical adventure of a city that dates back before the 16th century where it was first inhabited by the Maliseet Nation, “people of the beautiful river”, to the architecture of the 1800 & 1900”s in the Soldiers’ Barracks & the Loyalist Village.

Tell me about Habitat for Humanity Fredericton

Habitat for Humanity Fredericton Area is a non-profit charitable organization working towards a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. Habitat for Humanity brings communities together to help families build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership.

Habitat for Humanity Fredericton Area started operation in 2000 and have built or renovated 34 homes to-date. Their territory covers the Fredericton area, western and northern New Brunswick. Recently they met their very ambitious goal of housing 10 new Habitat families in 2017 and are determined to match that number this year. As exciting and ambitious as this sounds, it is really just the beginning of solving the affordable housing situation that is a real crisis for many families in the province. This important work is made possible through the generous support of our donors, partners and volunteers.

Where will I stay? What will I eat?

We will be staying at the University of New Brunswick apartments with shared accommodations. Breakfast will be prepared at the university, lunch at the build site and dinner at local restaurants. Snacks and water will be provided at the worksite.

What will it cost?

This cost for this 8 day opportunity to build in Fredericton is approximately
$1,490 + round-trip airfare

The trip cost covers: lodging, food and ground transportation for the build portion of the trip, traveler’s medical insurance, orientation materials, and a donation to HFH Fredericton and the Global Village Canada program. Participants will need to arrange and pay for round-trip air transportation from their point of departure to Fredericton. Flight arrangements must be made in consultation with the team leader.

*Habitat for Humanity Canada will issue a charitable donation tax receipt for the trip cost and the eligible airfare – these will be 2 separate receipts.

Meet the Team Leader: Kristana Leger

Hi everyone! For the past six years, I have worked as a real estate agent in Thunder Bay, which has provided me with an opportunity to travel the world. This will be first Global Village trip as a Team Leader and my first time in New Brunswick. I have previously volunteered with Habitat builds in Vietnam, Portugal, and Hawaii. I have always had a passion for the organization, which resulted in me becoming a board member of local affiliate in 2016. I don't have any children of my own, but I have sponsored one continuously since 2008, and had the unique experience of meeting them in Guatemala.

Please feel free to contact me at kristana@live.ca if you would like to learn more about the trip or apply now using our on-line application.  I look forward to hearing from you and sharing this incredible experience.
