San Juan de la Maguana project
February 9- 17th 2019
Take part in an innovative Global Village project, where disaster-resistant prefabricated homes are being used to address the lack of adequate housing. Join a group of like-minded people to experience the rich cultural traditions and explore this part of the world with a new lens
Habitat for Humanity Dominican Republic
Construction materials in the DominicanRepublic are so expensive that families tend to rent homes in poor conditions. Homes are often made of plated zinc roods, held up by poorly constructed wood walls. In the rural ares, homes are made with sticks, palm leaves, dirt and manure.
Since 1986, HFH has worked to improve the living conditions of low-income families and over this period has provided approximately 19,000 housing solutions. Housing projects involve families, communities and volunteers work together to improve housing and strengthen communities. In addition to housing improvement, HFH facilitates access to microfinancing and creates financial education programs.

Team Leader - Ernie Fraser
I have participated in 20 Global Village trips and been the team leader on 19 of those trips to places in Europe, Asia-Pacific, South America, the U.S., Canada (Yukon, PEI and Iqaluit). These trips offer wonderful opportunities for personal growth while helping strengthen communities and families. I greatly appreciate the shared experience of these trips with people of widely different backgrounds and experiences from across Canada. I am excited for my first GV trip to the Caribbean and giving a “hand up” to a local family. I hope you will join me.
