Habitat El Salvador - Christmas in Action - Blitz Build

Amount Raised $0.00
Team Goal $0.00

                                           El Salvador- San Vicente

Nov 30- Dec 08,2019

Volunteer on a New Global Village Project and offer a 'hand up' to Habitat For Humanity El Salvador's partner families.

Why should I go to El Salvador?

El Salvador is the smallest and most densely populated country in Central America. The housing shortage affects more than 944,000 families and continues to grow as the population increases. That statistic means that 6 out of 10 families live in inadequate housing. With approximately 31.9% of the population living in relative or extreme poverty, many families do not have access to financing to improve their homes.

Tell me about Habitat for Humanity El Salvador

Habitat El Salvador projects are focused on  a variety of housing solutions to meet the needs of Salvadoran families including: assistance in the legalization of land, new home construction and home improvements. A total of 8 community projects have been developed in association with local partners such as local governments, foundations, private companies, churches, etc. These projects include land acquisition, housing,  social infrastructure, vocational and business training.

Houses are built with concrete blocks and structural steel reinforcement, glass shutter windows, metal doors, a patio, a perimeter fence that protects the house from erosion, and a cement tile floor.

Home improvements are intended to impact the qualitative deficit, allowing the gradual improvement of existing houses. A variety of alternatives are offered, including loans for risk mitigation build  projects, legalization of land ownership and any other financial needs related to housing improvement.

Over 4200 families are served every year through the different services Habitat for Humanity El Salvador provides. Although families come from different backgrounds and present different needs.

Come prepared for a full week of hard physical labor in a rural setting and a willingness to learn and interact with community members. We ask our teams to try to stay flexible in order to enjoy this experience to it’s fullest.

Meet the Team Leader: Alan Rendall

Hi, I’m Alan Rendall and live in Canmore, Alberta.  This will be my 18th trip with Global Village. I had such a great time on my first build in El Salvador in 2009 I decided to become a Global Village team leader. I’ve had the opportunity to build in El Salvador (4x), Nicaragua, Mexico, Thailand, Nepal, Malaysia, Portugal, Hawaii, PEI, Montana  and Edmonton. I am excited to be a part of this Christmas in Action build  project in San Vicente, returning to one of my favorite parts of the world with an opportunity to keep working on my Spanish. If you are a flexible individual that enjoys working as a team to help a family in need please come and join us in  El Salvador.
