Habitat Prince Edward Island

Charlottetown

Volunteer in Prince Edward Island whilst giving a "hand up" to families in need

September 22nd - September 29th 2019

Habitat PEI currently has two large projects planned to take place from 2019 to 2021 that will serve a total of 25 families as part of their Vision 2020 strategy. Vision 2020 also marks the first time that Habitat PEI will construct multi-unit housing types.

2019 - Phase 1 - Four single family homes split between Harrington and Charlottetown. To learn more about the hardworking families partnering on these builds click here

2020 - Phase 2 - Eight townhouse units, built as two sets of four units, in the Greater Charlottetown Area.

2021 - Phase 3 - An additional eight townhouse units, also built as two set of four unites, in the Greater Charlottetown Area.

All units will be universally designed to meet accessibility needs in addition to being built to a minimum of an R-2000 standard, which means that the homes will be at least 50% more energy efficient than the National Building Code and as a result lower the total cost of ownership.

Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward Island

Founded in 1996, Habitat for Humanity PEI is a nonprofit organization working towards an Island where everyone has an opportunity to live in a safe, decent and affordable home. With the help of generous volunteers, the local Habitat has provided 67 families with safe, decent and affordable housing throughout Prince Edward Island. Their largest developments include an area of Hillsborough Park and a subdivision in Harrington. The various projects will focus on families living with disabilities, Canadian Forces veterans, refugees, and families traditionally left out of the housing market.

Team Leader

Hi, my name is Tessy Sagan and I live in Burlington, west of Toronto. My love of travel and exploration has led me to many places and adventures, including living in South America for two years. I participated in my first build to Hungary in 2007 and since then I have been fortunate to lead builds to Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Portugal, Prince Edward Island, British Columbia, and Armenia. Each experience has been unique and rewarding, combining the opportunity to travel to a new place and experience the culture, while being able to make a difference in the lives of others.

I am thrilled to be leading a build to the beautiful country of Armenia and I look forward to another great experience with other adventurous spirits.
