Jordan - Ammar Ben Yasser

3 Spots left!!!

November 22 - December 1, 2019

This team will work with Habitat Jordan and local masons to help construct a new home for a family in need of safe, reliable shelter. Staying in the community and dining with different families each evening will provide an opportunity for a genuine insight into Jordanian culture and traditions.

Habitat for Humanity Jordan

Due to economic necessity and tradition, extended families in Jordan tend to live together, resulting in 12 to 15 people sharing a small two-room house. Overcrowded living conditions and a lack of privacy endanger the health and well-being of families. Additionally, families struggle to cook in makeshift kitchens with dirt floors, which results in improperly stored food that can attract pests and rodents. Habitat for Humanity Jordan works with the local community to provide housing solutions to these families in need of healthy, affordable homes. To find out more about Habitat for Humanity Jordan, please visit their website, here

Meals will be a combination of food prepared by the team, family visits and lunches prepared for us. Laundry, internet and banking facilities are NOT usually available in community, but will be in Amman.

The minimum individual donation to Habitat for this 10 day opportunity to build with Habitat Jordan is approximately $2,150 (1) + excluding Air Transportation (2) + approximately $835 for team post-build cultural activities (3)

(There may be costs related to passports, visa and immunizations etc., which are the responsibility of the volunteer and are not eligible for tax receipts)

Should volunteers need assistance with booking flights or rest day activities, insurance or other services they may be interested in, the Team Leader will provide a list of travel agents registered with the Travel Industry Council of Ontario.

Team Leader

My name is Mary-Ellen, I currently I live in Chelsea, Quebec with my daughter, son and my Labrador dog, Emma.

I work as a Finance Manager for a Youth expedition company where we take students to the Arctic and the Antarctic and have been lucky enough to go to both Poles. Quite a switch from my years in the High-Tech world!

After work hours you can find me outside doing some sport, whether trail running in the woods, orienteering, biking, kayaking or skiing.

I am looking forward to leading my first build to Jordan this year! This will be my 5th build as a Team leader and 8th build altogether with Global Village. I have participated in builds to Africa, Brazil and Cambodia and have lead teams to Chile, Portugal, Philippines and Hawaii! If you have any questions please contact me at mec9906@gmail.com or you can also apply right now using our on-line application!
