Habitat Cambodia - Siem Reap

Volunteer on a Global Village build and help empower families and communities through decent and safe housing.

February 15th - 24th, 2020

Our team will work alongside local masons to help construct a new home with a local family. Habitat Cambodia's projects in Siem Reap are focused on supporting local populations construct disaster resilient and appropriate housing and sanitation solutions to improve the quality of life and ensure a healthy living environment.

Habitat for Humanity Cambodia

Habitat for Humanity Cambodia seeks to break the cycle of poverty through durable, affordable housing solutions. Since 2003, Habitat Cambodia has served over 70,000 households; over 20,000 through direct housing interventions and almost 50,000 through partnerships with micro-finance institutions. We take a holistic approach to housing that includes empowering marginalized communities by improving their own housing conditions and working with partner organizations to address the needs of people and communities. Cambodia is prone to floods and droughts, Habitat aims to build resilient communities through disaster preparedness and disaster risk reduction training. Habitat Cambodia's main project in Siem Reap is the Chapadeum Chivet Thmey (CCT) (New Life-New Start) project the successor of the GRACE project, which provides grant based housing for the most vulnerable. Habitat for Humanity Cambodia aims at improving the quality of life and health of rural residents in three districts of Siem Reap through housing, water and sanitation, community driven development, disaster risk reduction and response. Target communities receive support through the provision of sanitation and water facilities, education and awareness raising on proper hygiene and sanitation practices, major and minor renovation of identified houses, and technical skills training to complement the housing renovations. Cambodia has the lowest rural sanitation coverage in the region, and sustainable water access remains a key challenge, with high rates of inoperable water facilities. To find out more about Habitat for Humanity Cambodia, please visit their website, here

Team Leader

Thanks for checking out this build in beautiful Siem Reap. My name is Jon and I’m happy to be leading this team!

I’m currently residing in sunny Alberta but have had the pleasure of growing up in Montreal and then living on the east coast for 12 years in the foggy, yet stunning Halifax.

I have two fantastic children and two great step-children. I also have a stunning fiancée who shares the same passion for Habitat for Humanity as I do.

My first experience with Habitat was with the U.S. affiliate in Alaska for 2 weeks. In the past 6 years, I have lead two teams to Costa Rica, then over to New Orleans, El Salvador and Chile. I’m looking forward to continuing on leading on teams right into retirement which unfortunately is many years away.

Feel free to reach out to me should you have any further questions at Jonathanberg22@yahoo.ca.

I look forward to chatting with you more about this build.
