Habitat Vancouver Island North

Campbell River

Volunteer in Vancouver Island whilst giving a "hand up" to families in need

August 18th - August 25th 2019

Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North have built 12 affordable housing units in the Comox Valley and eight in Campbell River. Because two families eventually sold their homes back to the local Habitat after their financial situation improved, Vancouver Island North have been able to serve a total of 22 homeowner families. They are now entering the most ambitious period in their 13-year history. The recent purchase of two large parcels of land, totaling 1.82 acres, will enable Vancouver Island North to build eight more homes on 477 Hilchey Road in Campbell River and 10 on Lake Trail Road in Courtenay over the next three years.

Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North operate two ReStores, which help fund the building of new homes. Profits from the ReStores cover operating costs, so 100% of donations go directly to programming. In 2017, the local Habitat launched Invest In Yourself, a free financial planning course. The program is based on Habitat's homeowner education program, but expanded to benefit the whole community.

Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North

Founded in 2004, Habitat for Humanity Vancouver Island North is based out of the Comox Valley, serving North Vanoucer Island from Bowser to Port Hardy.

The economic engine of Campbell River is driven by the primary and secondary resources sectors. Recent trends show a shortage of skilled workers as film, forestry, and mining attempt to rebound.

Team Leader

Hi, I'm Kelly Squier-Andrews! I'm from Kingston, Ontario and I've been involved with Habitat for Humanity in some form since 2011. This will be my third time leading a GV team, but my first within Canada! Though my in-country experience with GV isn't as vast as some of the other team leaders, I had the opportunity to experience GV from the coordinator aspect for 1 year when I worked for Habitat for Humanity Canada in the GV department as the sending coordinator for the Asia Pacific region. Though my life has taken me on another path career-wise, Habitat will always be a big part of my life. When not volunteering or working as a Project Manager for a digital marketing agency, I can be found spending time outdoors with my husband and our young son

Please feel free to contact me at squier.k@gmail.com if you would like to learn more about the trip or apply now using our on-line application.
