Habitat Fredericton Area

Fredericton

Volunteer in Fredericton whilst giving a "hand up" to a family in need

July 20th - July 27th 2019

Buying a house in New Brunswick is a lot more affordable compared with the rest of Canada. According to industry experts, sales in the province are expected to remain strong in 2019, while it is anticipated that national sales will drop to a near decade low because of rising interest rates and strict mortgage stress-test rules that have made it challenging for buyers to access the housing market.

In partnership with the Fredericton Area Canadian Home Builders Association who have already committed to supply product and labour, Habitat is planning to construct a house for a family with physical disabilities. The finished product will be a three-bedroom bungalow built on a slab with fully accessible. The goal is to design and build a home that meets all current and anticipated needs while remaining affordable.

Other partners who will be participating in the build include: Muscular Dystrophy Canada, occupational therapists, Ability New Brunswick, and a local designer who has expertise in accessible design. This build will bring stability and opportunity to a family experiencing extreme difficulties.

Team Leader

Hi everyone, my name is Kristana! For the past seven years, I have worked as a real estate agent in Thunder Bay, which has provided me with an opportunity to travel the world. This will be my second Global Village trip as a Team Leader. My first time was in New Brunswick last year. I have previously volunteered with Habitat builds in Vietnam, Portugal, and Hawaii. I have always had a passion for the organization, which resulted in me becoming a board member of local affiliate in 2016. I don't have any children of my own, but I have sponsored one continuously since 2008, and had the unique experience of meeting them in Guatemala.

Please feel free to contact me at kristana@live.ca if you would like to learn more about this trip, or apply now using our on-line application!
