August 31st - September 8th, 2019

This multi-national team will work alongside local masons in Batticaloa to help construct a new home for a local family. Habitat Sri Lanka's projects are focused on supporting new home construction to provide housing solutions for internally displaced families.

About the Build

In celebration of the 30th Anniversary of Habitat for Humanity’s Global Village program, please join this unique team  being lead by the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Area Office, to build homes with families in Sri Lanka! The aim is to assemble a team of volunteers from around the world to join hands to build homes for the families affected by the civil disturbance, which prevailed in the country before 2009. The project ‘Homes not Houses: Building a Sustainable Future Together’, funded by the European Union, was initiated with the intention of providing housing solutions for internally displaced families in the North and East of Sri Lanka. This project aims to bridge the gap between relief, rehabilitation and development, aims to facilitate access of returnees and host communities to affordable and appropriate incremental housing solutions, social infrastructure and livelihood protection.Together, we will not only improve housing in the Batticaloa district, but we will also have a chance to learn about our cultures from one another. To find out more about Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka, please visit their website, here
